types of computers

  • when you hear the word computer, you may think of a personal computer such as a desktop or a laptop
  • however, computer come in many shapes and sizes, and they perform many different functions in our daily lives. when you use a calculator, browse the internet or play a game on your smartphone, withdraw cash from ATM, or use a wearable technology like a smartwatch of fitness tracker, you are using a type of computer.

  • desktop computers:

these are designed to be placed on a desk. they are made up of different parts, including the computer case, monitor, keyboard, and a mouse.

  • laptop computers:

these are battery-powered computers and can be easily carried around and used almost anywhere a laptop has a built-in monitor, keyboard, touchpad (which replaces the mouse), and speakers. this means it is fully functional, even when no external devices are connected.

  • tablet computers:

tablet computers or tablets are handheld computers that are even more portable than laptops. instead of a keyboard and mouse, tablets use a touch-sensitive screen for typing and navigation. the iPad is an example of a tablet.

  • server:

a server is a computer that provides services like data or information to another computer on a network for example, whenever you use the internet, you use the internet, you are looking at something that is stored on a server.
